Development of Education in rural, backward areas in West Bengal

Dhali Institute of Teacher Education promoted by Hazi Sultan Dhali Memorial Trust founded in the year 2016. It is located at Village-Chaltaberia, Plot No.-617, P.O.-Murarisha, P.S.-Hasnabad, Dist-North 24 Parganas. It is surrounded by four degree colleges with in the radius of 15 K.M. It’s distance from Kolkata is 58 K.M. and there are several Bus routes and train communication to attend the college. Eco-friendly and hygienic campus and induction of fire safety devises is there. The campus is full of Wi-Fi connectivity for students and teachers and enriched with highly qualified teachers.
It is a premier educational institution in rural area and offers elementary education which is a reflection of its moorings in traditional values coupled with a modern approach to both teaching and learning. The institution endeavours to bring about the all-round development of the students by encouraging self-expression to draw out their latent capabilities. The College was initially started its construction by Hazi Sultan Dhali Memorial Trust and the land donated by Md. Ruhul Amin Dhali, Ex-Deputy Magistrate & a patron of Education in the year 2012. Now it has completed its construction of building and other infrastructure in the year 2015 and applied for recognition of National Council of Teacher Education, New Delhi, being application Id No. ERCAPP3629 & ERCAPP3630 for the D.El.Ed and B.Ed (Composite) courses.Now NCTE, ERC issued Letter of Intent (formal recognition order)infavour of Dhali Institute of Teacher Education to start D.El.Ed + B.Ed. (composite) courses for the session 2016-17 by taking a decision in its 207th meeting held on 1st to 3rd March, 2016. Accordingly Teacher panels are being prepared through legally constituted selection committee of the affiliating body and on the result of interview. Process for final recognition and admission of students are in progress.

Introduction

The State of West Bengal spread over an area of 88,752 sq.km. It has a population of 80.18 million. This population corresponds to 7.80% of India’s total population. The state covers the bottleneck of India in the east, stretching from the Himalayas in the north to the Bay of Bengal in the South. It is bounded on the north by Sikkim, Nepal and Bhutan, on the east by Assam and Bangladesh, on the south by the Bay of Bengal and on the west by Orissa, Bihar & Jharkhand. The state has a very high literacy rate and socio-political awareness not only in urban areas but also in rural areas. The state had the reputation of being a progressive state giving India its intellectual leadership in the field of literature, science, technology and politics. With heightened agricultural production, increasing dominance of young population in IT sector the socio-economic standard of the population is also on rise. West Bengal has been divided into several administrative districts. North 24 Parganas being the adjacent district of the capital city Kolkata and its huge rural areas including the remotest Sundarban area, the world Heritage site, has a very density of population and requirement of civic amenities like Hospitals, Educational Institutions, Recreation and better communication has increase manifold in the state. The proposed site is within the district of North 24 Parganas under Hasnabad Block area and is located at the rural area where there is no ample opportunity of taking Higher Education including ElimentaryEducatio within their locality. So the proposed Institution is a dream to the educated youths of the area. To cope up with the present educational need among the peoples of the rural area, “HAZI SULTAN DHALI MEMORIAL TRUST” is thinking of spread of education particularly teacher Education which is the base of education and proposed to establish an Institute of Teacher Education at Village-Chaltaberia, Plot No.-617, P.O.-Murarisha, P.S.-Hasnabad, Dist-North 24 Parganas.

Vision & Mission

The vision of Dhali Institute of Teacher Education is: To develop and empower teachers through education that fosters knowledge and skills, promotes values of equality, secularism and national integration, moulds character through discipline and rigour and creates an open mind capable of assimilating the best traditions of the East. The mission statements of Dhali Institute of Teacher Education aim at translating its vision into action plans through: Dissemination of knowledge leading to academic excellence and personal growth Stimulation of the academic environment of the Institution for promotion of quality in teaching-learning. Maintenance of a balance between education that promotes knowledge per se and training that imparts skills for employability. Broadening the base of teacher education in keeping with the framework of a pluralistic society. Inculcation of egalitarian, secular and non-parochial values among students in addition to the core values of honesty, discipline, courage, compassion, self-respect as well as respect for others, promotion of all-round development of the students to face the emerging and futuristic challenges arising from complexities of the rapidly changing national and international scenario. In keeping with the broad vision and mission, the objective of the Institution is to enrich the society by creating teacher – intellectually astute, economically independent, socially aware, politically conscious, morally superior yet graceful, gentle and sensitive.

Achievement

Hazi Sultan Dhali Memorial Trust, founded in the year 2012 and promoted the ‘Dhali Institute of Teacher Education’ (DITE) in the year 2016 for the Development of Education particularly elementary education in Rural and backward areas in West Bengal. It is now continuing its activities to spread education in different branches of education. This year NCTE, ERC issued Letter of Intent infavour of Dhali Institute of Teacher Education to start D.El.Ed + B.Ed. (composite) courses for the session 2016-17 by taking a decision in its 207th meeting held on 1stto 3rd March, 2016.

Admission of a student in this College implies adherence to the prescribed code of conduct and observance of the rules laid down by the College and the affiliating body. Full co-operation in this regard is sought from the guardians. Any student who fails to abide by these rules will be strictly dealt with.
